You write that 'In the Democratic Republic of Congo ... there have been more than 20,000 suspected cases of the virus this year, causing hundreds of deaths ... Mpox affects primarily, but not exclusively, gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men....'
So is the Congo a very gay place ... or is the second statement perhaps a little sweeping?

While there is evidence of transmission among the gay community in DR Congo (https://www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099(24)00577-2/fulltext) I should probably have noted that "outside of Africa, mpox has primarily spread through male-to-male sexual contact" (https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2024/08/09/mpox-africa-congo-who-emergency/)
