It has been obvious from day one of this Government that Nicola Willis could hardly add 1+1. Putting together tax cuts for her buddies and paying for it by slashing essential services is far from reality it is evident that she lives far above any political glass ceiling and is completely incapable of her job.
Regardless of which way Tricky Nicky likes to spin it, this is essentially an austerity govt. Significant job loses, cuts to welfare services, tightening of criteria for welfare assistance and wholesale spending cuts, all guaranteed to drive the economy into recession. It's ideological clap trap with no basis in reality. Why are they surprised ? Beginning to think we are governed by idiots.
The elephant in the room is the ACC I reckon. I recall hearing about its inception while working in NY in the 80s and wondering how on earth NZ could afford such a scheme. Has it ever been thoroughly assessed/revisited in terms of its original intent vis a vis its current MO? My understanding that it was conceived primarily to cover workplace injuries with a view to heading off litigation around same. I might be wrong, but ( as a beneficiary myself for other non- work related injuries) it seems to have moved well away from that narrow focus.
⁉️ ACC is simply underfunded but is an outstanding concept for both workplace & other "accidental" injuries/harms. The litigation question also applies to say a charity running an event where say the Bouncy Castle injures someone, OR sports clubs where often people get injured playing sports - sure they could "take out insurance" but insurance co ethos is "profit" so that would put us in the USA disaster re people being denied payouts as much as possible to protect the bottom line. Then there are people doing private recreation who get injured like falling off mountains, hang-gliding, tramping, sailing etc.
ACC is not perfect & sometimes refuses to cover things they should, but because it is a PUBLIC org & not a private-for-profit org, the PUBLIC have more transparency & ability to challenge decisions & lobby for the inclusion of some harms like sexual assault. Earners pay levies, and the govt has a specific fund to cover everyone else - it is not unforseen or unknown & every other govt has just got on with it as part of their responsibility to fun - Nicky-no-boats is basically incompetent & her answers are more "creative writing" than "accounting" - which works with her degree in English Literature & diploma in journalism - neither of which have anything to do with how to run an economy (except into the ground?)
🤔 I guess Ms Willis degree in English Lit comes in handy in being creative with her excuses & explanations⁉️ Or was her qualification for being Finance Minister based on her first job as a cashier⁉️ or being a lobbyist for Fonterra⁉️ or being a Director of the NZ Initiative - a pro-free market public-policy Atlas Network linked think tank⁉️ Or just "jobs for the boys/girls" after working with Bill English & John Key⁉️ There has to be SOME reason a totally unqualified-in-economics & fiscal policy got elevated to Finance Minister 😱
That puts Dunedin's badly needed new hospital even further out of reach. It's almost 3rd world status, plumbing backed up, unsafe electrics after it rains, terrible food for patients. Im waiting for the electrics to totally blow while people are on the operating table. But let's save a few bob and get rid of Milo for the hard working staff...

I'm happy to pay my share of tax - I'd just like the superwealthy to do the same.

I have an idea, but I am not silly enough to put it in print🙄.

"Austerity will continue until morale improves"
2024 has been a terrible time for me personally - I am hoping the sun will be the healer that I need it to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
