1120 job cuts to an already stretched public health service means that more and more people will die from a failure to gain medical treatment they desperately need and thousand more will live a life of reduced mobility because they are shut out of orthopedic surgery unless they can stump up with the tens of thousands of dollars to go private. The day will come when our social services will need revamped because they do not meet the needs of our people. More money on repairing the disastrous decisions made to cut budgets of services already stretched to meet minimum needs. This is actually happening now but coalition govt as so focused on surplus that they can not see what's happening now and the future.
The Spinoff is one of my only "must reads" so have cancelled another sub I realised I NEVER read (forgot I was paying!) and will increase my donation here - as Lyn said - any clues WHY you are not getting funding & is there anything members can do like write to these organisations & tell them how much we have appreciated the projects you have done in the past??

Why do you think the funding proposals were turned down? Is the Spinoff too left leaning? Forgive the simple question but who holds the purse strings for funding?
With more and more journalists losing their jobs we can't have a fourth estate dominated by the right, fear for those who speak up. The WCC report on what was happening behind the scenes was so informative and more of what I would like to read. Like so many, the only way we get info is from the media. Gambatte ne.
