I cannot understand how the Kermadecs island group 1000 kms north of New Zealand can be considered traditional Kaimoana fishing grounds for Maori. It is well documented that Maori had never settled there nor travelled to fish there so what right have they decide whether or not it should become a sanctuary or even talk of compensation.
