Why are we incapable of having adult conversations about tax and prisons in NZ? We have a very unfair and inefficient tax system, but the fearmongering aimed at any attempt to fix it, run by those who benefit from the unfairness is deafening. As for measures to actually reduce crime, rather than just punish people always attract the "soft on crime" rhetoric. The Spinoff is better than most media outlets, but there is very little counternarrative.
