'But it's what you utebros voted for. Why are you all complaining? Congestion charges? Rates rises? I mean seriously, WTH did you muppets *think* was going to happen when we canned the Auckland petrol tax?' -- Chris Luxon

As the excellent podcast by Bernard Hickey notes; business and government are responsible for 40% of NZ emissions and government control how citizens produce emissions. So what is the plan? Disincentivising low emissions vehicles is 180⁰ in the wrong direction in my opinion.

😵‍💫Seriously, it is one thing to have philosophical differences but another to ignore history (Muldoon era ) and science (encouraging use of electric vehicles etc.) As for the idiocy of removing the Auckland fuel tax ... not only was it providing funds exclusively FOR Auckland and paid for BY Auckland (as opposed to coming out of taxpayers in Invercargill, Wellington, Cromwell etc.) but it was encouraging people to use public transportation and/or lower emission vehicles that also are more fuel/cost efficient - a WIN WIN WIN that will now be a LOSE LOSE LOSE if all-of-govt funding has to plug the gaps, public transport becomes less viable & road congestion even worse, & emissions increases that have to be countered some other way 😡😲
